Congratulations to Eddie McFarland of Chevron Systems!
Our employees are actively encouraged to report all unsafe acts and incidents allowing the management team to take appropriate action. To support this initiative, we introduced a reward scheme in 2011 fully endorsed by our Managing Director Kim Yates.
The process begins with an employee being selected for a monthly safety award, the prize of which is £50. Our General Manager, Andy Hicks and Group Health and Safety Manager, Christopher Rowley, along with our Directors look at the details of each monthly award and decide on an overall winner for year.
Whist working as a TSCO on the M62 J9 to J11 scheme, there was concern regarding the number of closure breaches whilst having closures on both carriageways. Eddie came up with the solution of using red and white plastic barrier (similar to pedestrian barrier) with high intensity red flashing lights to close the carriageway behind the cones. This significantly reduced closure breaches. It proved so effective that it has become standard practice throughout the Chevron group.
