Chevron Traffic Management, along with the site team for the M5 Oddingly VRS scheme has been awarded the Phil Stanton award for excellence 2012!
The Phil Stanton Award for excellence was established in 2003 in memory of Highways Agency worker Phil Stanton who sadly passed away in June of that year. Phil was a driving force in the establishment of Construction Management as a procurement method at both Pilot Stage and for the current Framework. The award recognises the team that has delivered an outstanding performance on their project during the year, in particular demonstrating it can provide a service which ‘goes the extra mile’ at no additional cost to the client.
Eddie McFarland from Chevron Systems was also presented the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Safety in 2012.
Whist working as a TSCO on the M62 J9 to J11 scheme, there was concern regarding the number of closure breaches whilst having closures on both carriageways.
Eddie came up with the solution of using red and white plastic barrier (similar to pedestrian barrier) with high intensity red flashing lights to close the carriageway behind the cones. This significantly reduced closure breaches. It proved so effective that it has become standard practice throughout the Chevron group.
