As part of a new company safety initiative Chevron has been trialing different types of portable pedestrian safety barrier, which can be used as part of a slip road closure.

This practice has been a huge benefit to site safety. As on the M62 Junction 9 to 11 CMF2 Scheme projects it was identified that the driving public were paying very little regard to traffic management restrictions that were imposed during certain times of the day. The driving public would deliberately move cone’s out of the way and drive through a working site, creating regular near miss incidents.

To help reduce these figures a set of barriers (as seen by the pictures), was used. Once these barriers were in place the number of breaches has been vastly reduced. To such an extent that the barriers are now incorporated into all works sites. As well as being used with ISU crews from Area 10 for all major incident works.
