The Highways Agency has named its best contractors and suppliers in its special recognition scheme, now in its third year.
The annual award gives praise to suppliers that continue to drive costs down and produce innovative solutions to safety, value, better management and diversity.
The BAM Nuttall Morgan Sindall joint venture was awarded for Health and safety for eliminating the need for workers to cross a live carriageway on the M62 junction 25 to 30 smart motorway scheme. The scheme represents the first time a major project has been delivered without the need for road workers to cross the live carriageway. This achieved through a five point plan which eliminated the need for more than 80,000 live carriageway crossings over 65km of a heavily congested part of the network.
Graham Dalton, chief executive of the Highways Agency, said: “It’s been another successful year for our supplier recognition scheme. Yet again, large numbers of our suppliers – who are so fundamental to our business – have shown the type of innovation that will help us to be recognised as the world’s leading road operator. “We’ll be looking to our supply chain to show more of this kind of good work to support the Highways Agency’s journey as we significantly increase investment and customer service.”
