The £42 million improvement is to be carried out by joint venture bmJV, consisting of BAM Nuttall and Morgan Sindall on behalf of the Highways Agency. The project will add an extra lane in each direction to reduce congestion, improve journey time reliability and support economic growth.
From 11 November, Chevron Traffic Management will be providing overnight lane closures to allow contractors to create new central reserve crossovers. These are needed for the contraflow system that will be used to provide the necessary working space for safe construction of the main earthworks, which are planned to start in the New Year. Other work taking place includes the installation of CCTV and speed enforcement cameras.
